The Pointer Sisers recorded the song "Slow Hand", but I believe it's and older song. Anyone know how far back it goes and who first recorded it?

I think Conway Twitty recorded it as a country cut, but I'm not sure how long ago.

Don't believe I ever heard it by Conway--just the Pointer Sisters.

Slow Hand
Pointer Sisters

As the midnight moon, was drifting through
The lazy sway of the trees
I saw the look in your eyes, lookin' into mine
Seeing what you wanted to see
Darlin' don't say a word, cause I already heard
What your body's sayin' to mine
I'm tired of fast moves
I've got a slow groove...
On my mind

I want a man with a slow hand
I want a lover with an easy touch
I want somebody who will spend some time
Not come and go in a heated rush
I want somebody who will understand
When it comes to love, I want a slow hand

On shadowed ground, with no one around
And a blanket of stars in our eyes
We are drifting free, like two lost leaves
On the crazy wind of the night
Darlin', don't say a word, 'cause I already heard
What your body's sayin' to mine
If I want it all night
You say it's alright
We got the time

'Cause I got a man with a slow hand
I got a lover with an easy touch
I found somebody who will spend some time
Not come and go in a heated rush
I found somebody who will understand
When it comes to love, I want a slow hand

If I want it all night
Please say it's alright
It's not a fast move
But a slow groove
On my mind

'Cause I got a man with a slow hand
I got a lover with an easy touch
I found somebody who will spend some time
Not come and go in a heated rush
I found somebody who will understand
When it comes to love, I want a slow hand

Conway, the Pointers and Bruce Springsteen all had good versions of Slow Hand. Most midi versions I've heard are the Pointer Sister versions.

As I'm sure some of you already know, the Pointer Sisters version debuted in May 1981, with it peaking at #2 for 3 weeks. Conway debuted the country version of this tune in April 1982 peaking at #1 for two weeks. Ok, here's a little added trivia: Del Reeves had actually recorded & charted this song (debuting in Sept 1981, and peaking at #53 on the Country Billboard charts) even before Conway's smash hit version. How do I know all this? I own and highly recommend Joel Whitburn's Top Billboard Hits books:
http://www.recordresearch.com/

His series of books are an essential resource to musicians and entertainers like us as it enhances our act with background & interesting trivia regarding the songs we perform, providing the audience a far more entertaining (or at least more informative) show. My audiences really do appreciate learning these things, and it makes the show that much more memorable for them as well, because they then share this bit of trivia they learned from me to their friends, sparking interest in their friends to come see me perform as well. Marketing 101.

My Joel Whitburn Billboard Chart book collection currently consists of:
http://www.recordresearch.com/rock_pop.html
Top Pop Singles 1955 -2002
Pop Annual 1955 - 1999
Top Adult Contemporary 1961-2001
Music Yearbooks (past recent year)
A Century of Pop Music
Pop Memories (1890-1954)
http://www.recordresearch.com/country.html
Top Country Singles (1944- 2001)
Country Annual (1944-1997)

I recommend them all.

Scott

I'll never forget seeing Conway Twitty & Loretta Lynn live in concert back in 82. A truly memorable show performance. He is greatly missed. - Scott

First time I saw Conway was about 1964. I was in college in Stillwater, OK. I had just gotten married to my first ex-wife and we went to a dance at the Armory. Conway was just hitting at the time. He played guitar and had a drummer and bass player. They did a great show, even back then. I remember that he did "Only Make Believe" that night.
It was all rock 'n roll, very little CW.
